| Finland chose Skanska’s QPR ScoreCard based best practice to European Union risk management competition as national candidate | |
| 14 January 2009 The Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has chosen two candidates to European Union’s risk management competition. One of the candidates is the best practice of Skanska Finland to encourage employees to monitor work safety risks in construction sites. By booking risk incident observations, Skanska has been able to more than split the number of accidents. The Finnish subsidiary of international construction Group Skanska, Skanska Oy, uses QPR’s software for its performance and process management tasks. One daily performance management best practice in its construction sites is to book observed work safety risks by QPR’s performance management software, QPR ScoreCard. By doing this, Skanska Finland has managed to diminish the number of accidents per million work hour below 40 % of the starting level in three years time – and in the same to the half of the national average. “The remarkable outcome of Skanska’s work safety best practice shows how measuring leads to better consideration. In the same, it shows how well balanced scorecard based performance management produces excellent results also in other areas than in its usually considered field of hard financial indicators”, says Mr. Matti Erkheikki, Vice President of QPR’s software sales in Finland. Healthy Workplaces campaign is a European Union campaign on risk assessment aiming to promote an integrated management approach by taking into account the different steps of risk assessment. It also seeks to demystify the risk assessment process; risk assessment is not necessarily complicated, bureaucratic or a task only for experts. The campaign period is 2008–2009. The campaign searches good best practices, which are awarded by the European Agency for Safety and Health on Work (www. osha.europa.eu) in Prague in spring 2009. The two official Finnish national candidates were selected out of nine candidates.
